Recognising the need to fast-track skills development programmes to address skills shortages in the contact center industry, the South African Business Trust, in conjunction with the Department of Trade and Industry and industry association Business Process enabling South Africa (BPeSA), have established a workplace inception programme, known as Monyetla (meaning ‘Opportunity’).
Comprised of a reduced set of the most essential unit standards from the National Certificate: Contact Centre Support qualification, this programme offers most of the benefits of a learnership in a compacted, four-month time period.
To ensure that the initiative is demand, rather than supply-driven, Monyetla is based on a consortium model driven by the employer instead of the training provider. Employers who can undertake to employ at least 70% of learner graduates at the end of the programme receive an attractive subsidy for learner recruitment, training, assessment, administration and allowances.
The credits achieved from the Unit Standards covered in the Monyetla training programme can be converted into a full qualification at a later stage, should the learner and employer wish to.
