Our programme introduces key terms, rules, concepts, principles and practices of management that create informed managers in any field. The scope of management covers four domains: leadership, self-management, people management and management practices. Our programme addresses each of these domains with generic competencies, thereby enabling learning programmes to be contextualised for specific sectors and industries and provides opportunities for people to transfer between various specialisations within management. Your management competencies will be strengthened, and enable you to better manage systems, processes, resources, self, teams and individuals in various occupations.

 

Programme outline
Module 1: Understanding Management (242822; 242814; 242818)

In this module, you will learn about the roles and responsibilities that junior managers or team leaders play in ensuring that organizational objectives are achieved and organizational standards are met.  You will also learn about the four management functions or activities (planning, organizing, leading and controlling) that make up the management process that is used by all levels of managers.

Module 2: Managing Teams (242821; 11473; 242812)

There is a very big focus on teams and teamwork in the world of work right now. Many organizations function entirely on cross-functional project teams. It is important for you to be able to function effectively as part of a team. In order to do this, you need to understand what teams are and how they work.

Module 3: Problem Solving and Decision Making (242817)

In this module, you will learn processes for problem solving and decision making that will help you solve problems more effectively. You will learn some techniques that aid the problem solving and decision making process.

Module 4: Understanding Leadership (242824)

This module has been designed to provide insight into the role of leadership within their work context. You will acquire the knowledge and skills of leadership that can be applied into their own current position.

Module 5: Running Effective Meetings (242816)

Meetings are an important part of the world of work.  This is the setting for people to discuss matters of common concern, share information, make plans, take decisions, solve problems and report back on tasks.  In your workplace, you will spend a lot of time participating in meetings. Depending on your job, you will be expected to organise and prepare for meetings, take notes in them and do the follow-up work after them.  

Module 7: Managing Customer Service (242829, 118028)

While many companies promise to deliver an incredible customer experience, some are better at delivering than others. This two-day course is designed around six critical elements of customer service that, when the company lives them, bring customers back to experience service that outdoes the competition.

Module 8: Ethics in the Workplace (242815)

Morals refer to our personal set of belief about what is right or wrong. They affect the decisions we make and the way we behave. Morals help a person in choosing a course of action whenever he or she is in a dilemma. Our moral compass is our “conscience” that guides us in the right direction. Morals or ethics are not only a personal affairs. Given the recent crisis in the financial sector and widespread incidence of corruption, ethics have become a central focus when discussing leadership in both the private and public sector.
